We are seeking two Animal Control Patrollers to join our Animal Control Program in Chilliwack. We are looking for highly motivated, independent and animal-savvy individuals. Under the direction of the Animal Welfare and Regulatory Supervisor, you will work as part of a team and be responsible for patrolling parks and trails and providing education to dog owners, assisting in gathering evidence of bylaw infractions, assist with investigating complaints from the public, accept and process fees such as for dog licences and prepare documentation and electronic records as needed. This is a 6 month time-duration position. The hours of work are 4 hours per day, 5 days per week, scheduled between 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Completion of grade 12 and experience in a similar role or an acceptable combination of training and experience;
  • Good computer skills, preferably with experience in Microsoft Office;
  • Basic understanding of dogs;
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all types of weather;
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and work well as part of a team;
  • Excellent communication skills and conflict resolution skills, with ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly and communicate effectively with members of the public and co-workers;
  • Strong written communication skills which includes the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly; and
  • Must be prepared to work flexible hours which will include evenings and weekends and statutory holidays.

 
The start rate for this union position is $17.71 per hour plus 16% in lieu of benefits. Upon successful completion of the required 960 hour probationary period, the rate will increase to $20.84 per hour plus 16% in lieu of benefits.
